Don Bailey
Don has been training for seven years, acting as a lead instructor for simulation-based training utilizing NIMS for 5 years. Don’s professional experience, education and background in the fire service and as a fire service educator help to bring the TotalCommand concept of incident command to light for the class participants.
Don began his fire service career by volunteering for his hometown fire department at the age of 20. After deciding to make this a career and completing basic fire and EMS training, he was hired by the Allen Fire Department as a Firefighter/EMT and has moved up through the ranks to his current position as Battalion Chief.
Don has also become involved in fire service education. Don has worked for the Collin College Fire Academy for 11 years as a classroom and hands on skills instructor for many disciplines such as basic fire academy recruits, driver operator engineer and fire officer certification courses. He has also had the opportunity through Collin College to instruct area municipal departments in Continuing Education and ISO classes with hands on and live fire training. Don has conducted training for the Allen Fire Department in many areas of specialty rescue training as well as the command training utilizing simulation. He believes that “the opportunity to help train and educate others in the fire service is a gift and I get the benefit of sharing my knowledge, but also learning something from every class I am a part of.”

Jonathan Boyd
Jonathan Boyd is the Assistant Chief of Operations for the Allen Fire Department and proponent of experiential learning through simulation. Through these efforts, the City of Allen Fire Department was recognized as a finalist for the Fire Service Award for Excellence from the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) and winner of the Transforming Local Governments Innovation Award in 2010. Jonathan has been a speaker at Microsoft’s Worldwide Public Safety Symposium, the Fire Department Instructor’s Conference, the Fire Rescue International Conference, and the ICMA Transforming Local Government Conference.
Jonathan started with the Allen Fire Department in 1996, and over the years has moved up the ranks of Driver, Captain, and Division Chief of Training to his current role as Assistant Chief of Operations. Jonathan has led the Allen Fire Department in implementing innovative simulation training that focused on the principles of NIMS. The training resulted in improved communication, organization, and fire ground tactics. Jonathan has traveled throughout the nation and Canada teaching other departments how to use realistic training like TotalCommand to make their departments more effective.
Jon holds a Masters of Public Administration from the University of Texas at Dallas.
